After Christmas In Alabama ... Happy New Year!

.
The beautiful State of Alabama Governors Mansion. Majestic!

The Alabama State Capitol at Christmas.

The Alabama State Capitol. I spent a few days in this grand building.

BOULTIER

For my fellow Montgomerians and me, the word "Boultier" is the only word used at Christmastime to describe this display of lights that began as just a few "less than extravagant" decorations.

We love this house, and you don't go on a tour of the city during Christmas without stopping at the show on Boultier Avenue, on the outskirts of the beautiful Old Cloverdale.

Hey, the children love it! It is just a fun, funny part of our Christmas holidays here.

Next year I plan to begin early and photograph the beautiful lights and decorations throughout the beautifully and extravagantly decorated homes in Montgomery.

So many photographs are published here, and I have also posted a link to the video of the "Boutier" SCENE.

THE CHILDREN WILL ENJOY THIS, so just scroll through. A few family pictures follow.

Enjoy!

Tote Along

.
Kristin by Coach

The tote is on the must-have list of most women these days. From the little pooch to the laptop computer, these versatile carry-alls are not only useful; they are a fashion statement for many. I am not speaking of the grocery store, germ-toting tote you can purchase for a dollar, ladies.

Today’s fashionable totes come in a variety of styles, colors, materials and price ranges, and I have included a diverse selection below. Whether you are looking for value or luxury, there is much to choose from. Ladies, these designers have our number!

Lands End offers some of the most durable and classic totes around. They can be monogrammed, and they come in an array of colors and sizes. They are incredibly versatile and can be used to take things to work, the beach, or just around on daily activities.

This metallic destressed tote from Tory Burch speaks for itself. Tory Burch offers chic totes in a variety of styles. They offer designer styling at lower price points than some of the higher end designers.

Calling all college girls -- get your tote. Forever 21 is the store for bargains!

This bali blue tote by Vera stands alone.

Peyton Signature Sateen Tote by Coach is the classic. It's certainly my choice!

Louis Vuitton offers one of the chicest, well made totes available—the Neverfull. As its name suggests, this tote can carry anything and everything.

Ralph Lauren tote with the classic monogram.

This Rubberized Montauk Tote is from J. Crew.

This olive canvas tote can be found at Target. What a bargain!

Have a great day, and don't forget your bag!

TAKE TIME

During the year we become hurried and bogged down in our own busy lives. So often we forget to take a step backwards, take in a breath of fresh air, and experience all of the priceless and breathtaking gifts  begging for our attention. We need to take time, a reprieve from the other aspects of life.

Not so many years ago people communicated mostly through hand-written word. They kept journals, calendars, and diaries, writing their thoughts and important recollections, while maintaining card and address lists for every occasion. I have always found it comforting to look back on old calenders, journals, address books, bank entries, and other recordings of my life.

Can I suggest that we slow down a little in 2010 to look around us, smell the roses, and feel the solitude that a moment of relaxation can deliver. We can easily reacquaint ourselves with life’s simple pleasures and simultaneously decrease our stress level.

I have gathered a few journals, address books, and photograph albums for your consideration. A previous post, The Write Way, contains resources for writing

I feel certain that we can continue to find the time to accomplish our other obligations, all the while enjoying the lovely pleasures before us.  So... let's get out the pen, open the cover, and put our thoughts on a crisp piece of paper.

This leather bound journal is Crane quality and comes in several colors.

This zebra photo album from Crane is just the right size to fit in your bag.

This Season of Bliss journal/calendar by Hoffman Media adds a more feminine touch to our journal writing. Hoffman Media is the publisher of Victoria and Southern Lady magazines, among other tiltles.

These leather address books by Crane come in three colors.

Daytimer has all of your planner/calendar needs met.

This photo album by Martha Stewart for Michael's can be used as is, or used as a template for your own creation.

See you soon,
Teresa

Twinkle, Twinkle

.

When I saw these beautiful window designs by Ralph Lauren, I thought about the little tiny LED lights that I am forever in love with. My sister brought a bunch of these tiny lights back from a skiing trip last winter, and I have used them in so many ways since.

I wish that I had pictures of the arrangements I have made using these lights, but they are packed in storage until I move. I can't wait because I have so much to share with you!

These LED lights come in branches, bunches, and trees.

Thank you, The Light Garden, for introducing me to these delightful and fanciful lights.

They add dimension and elegance to your home. Did I add that they are romantic?

There are several companies that market these arrangements, but I am familiar with The Light Garden and The Illuminating Garden, which have the same products.

I noticed that Target has the white branches, and they appear to be more economical. There are choices if your search "LED branches."

As I said before, I regret that I cannot show the pictures that I have now, but I will certainly get to them soon! I design a tall, between 18 inches and 3 feet, arrangement. The flowers and greenery used are seasonal. For the table, I prefer a smaller arrangement.

For Christmas, I use white tulips, red and white tulips, Lilies, roses, pine needles, magnolia leaves, holly, and cedar. I use floral water viles so that the lights do not get wet. These vials are also perfect for mantle greenery. I prefer a crystal vase with a bow around the bottom to cover the viles. There are so many things you can do with these lights, so have fun!

For the smaller arrangements, I use hydrangeas (the silk flowers are beautiful too) or other substantial, short flowers using the same greenery as I do in the large arrangements.
Visit these websites, and use your imagination. There are endless possibilities.

I hope that all of you have a Merry Christmas! I will see you next week. Enjoy your families, and be thankful for what you have. Happy Birthday Jesus!

CHRISTMAS CHEER

.

Rob Liefeld, December 1926 Vogue cover.

Happy, creative, anxious, productive, energetic -- just a few of the emotions I feel during the Christmas season. I have always loved the holidays because people seem cordial, thankful, and so much more patient and friendly than during other times of the year.

I believe that the words Merry Christmas bring a smile to the face and a warm feeling that is very much heart-felt. While times are difficult for many, we can boost their Christmas spirit by cheerful expression.

All I want for Christmas is happiness for everyone, and oh yes – SNOW! Santa Clause, please send some snow!
Most importantly -- HAPPY BIRTHDAY JESUS!

I hope that you and your family are having a bright season!

Merry Christmas,
Teresa,
