Most of you are familiar with the work of the uber-talented interior designer Mary Douglas Drysdale. For those of you that have not been introduced to her work, you have truly been missing out on close to 35 years of her stunning work. I have been following and posting on Mary's work for a few years, and I can tell you that she wakes up each day with new and beautiful ideas. I must also mention that she is one of the kindest and most genuine of people.
The bathroom below was designed by Mary for American Standard. No doubt they have upped their game! I have also included some of the vignettes Mary created for the bath. To read more about the bath, read Mary's own words at the end of this post.
Thank you, Mary, for sharing your beautiful work with us.
ENJOY!
American Standard is upscaling and wants to be more high-end appropriate.
I was asked to design a bathroom which would show their new fixtures. I took my
assignment to be the expression of luxury for a modern couple.
The layout was done to
showcase the tub, both as symbol and substance. The mirror on the mirror is Baker, and I find that view stunning. The millwork is there to add detail and
character, and is an option to tiling the walls. I made the ceiling 10 feet
high, and used 5 shades of whites to express dimension and freshness. The
vanity has a new version of a backsplash, with a wall of penny round
tiles on the wall behind and above the vanity. The vanity is my design. The
floor is thassos marble. The WC and shower are off of the main room and provide
for a bit more privacy. I have been asked for my entire career, where the
magazines should go in the bathroom, hence the reading room, in the loo. The
shower offers a skylight which is a nice way to connect with the mood outside.
On axis with the shower is a pair of French doors, the idea to connect. - Mary Douglas Drysdale
