MICHAEL SMITH ~ SETTING THE BAR IN DESIGN

When interior designer Michael Smith is running things, you know that it will be stunning. He is all about mood and light and comfort. When you see a home that he has designed, it has that extra subtle wow factor to it, a job well done.

When the clients asked Smith to design their Upper East Side home, he moved in for a year while he was renovating his own apartment. The client wanted traditional, so Smith used some pieces from his collection for Baker. The lighting, the de Gournay wallpaper, the dark paneling, and the rugs set the tone for the perfect interior. ENJOY!

ELIZABETH TYLER KENNEDY ~ DESIGN ON THE RIVER

Ask interior designer Elizabeth Tyler Kennedy what she loves most about her home, and she will tell you that she loves the glow, the glow of the sun, the glow of the candles, and the glow of the light. And that is exactly what she has created in this beautiful home on the river in Georgia.

The antiques in this home are mostly family pieces, but Kennedy has added her own touch through accessories and art. The Old World look fits beautifully with the muted drab colors that were intentionally put here. Kennedy just likes it like that. I would have to agree with her. ENJOY!

ROBERT COUTURIER ~ DESIGN ON FIFTH AVENUE

When the financier’s wife said she wanted French, she meant French, so the couple brought in architect and interior designer Robert Couturier to renovate and design the almost 9,000-square-foot apartment. The clients visited Paris twice with the designer, not only getting ideas for their home, but also purchasing pieces of furniture, paneling, and flooring.

Couturier combined furnishings, art, and other pieces from the couple’s previous home with the French purchases, and also added new contemporary pieces. ENJOY!

LEMON AND HERB MARINATED GRILLED CHICKEN THIGHS

SORRY NO IMAGE BUT THESE ARE SO GOOD!

Ingredients
Juice and zest of 4 lemons, plus 2 whole lemons
5 sprigs freshrosemary, finely chopped
5 sprigs fresh sage, finely chopped
3 cloves garlic, smashed and finely chopped
1/2 teaspoon crushedred pepper
Extra-virgin olive oil
8 chicken thighs, trimmed of excess fat
Kosher salt

Directions
In a small bowl combine the lemon juice and zest, chopped herbs, garlic, crushed red pepper, and 1/2 cup of olive oil. Whisk to combine.
Place the chicken thighs in a wide flat dish so they are in a single layer. Add the herb mixture. Massage the thighs to coat with the herb mixture. Cover and refrigerate overnight. Note: If doing a quick marinade, leave the chicken out of the fridge for up to 1 hour.
Preheat grill. Brush and oil the grill to clean.
Remove the chicken from the marinade and brush off any excess herbs and oil. Season the chicken generously with salt and drizzle with a little bit of fresh olive oil.
Cut the 2 whole lemons in half and cut the tips off the ends; this will allow the lemons to stand up without rolling around. Place the chicken, skin side down, on the preheated grill. Place the lemons, flesh side down, on the preheated grill. Grill the chicken for 3 to 4 minutes and then rotate the chicken 90 degrees to create the lovely crosshatch pattern. Grill the chicken for another 3 to 4 minutes. Turn the chicken over and grill for another 4 to 5 minutes. Check for doneness (the chicken should be well cooked). Check the lemon halves to see if they are beautifully caramelized. Turn over to grill on the bottom for 2 to 3 minutes.
Serve the chicken with grilled lemon.

TIMOTHY HAYNES AND KEVIN ROBERTS ~ DESIGN ON FIFTH AVENUE

I have seen many fabulous and extravagantly decorated homes over the years, but this Fifth Avenue apartment may lead the pack.  Mirrored glass moldings, curtains with amethyst and metal beads embroidered into them, a metallic pink toilet, a black lacquer and stainless steel painted front door, leather, marble, and cashmere walls, and a furniture and art collection that is out of this world. Just a few of the luxuries that interior designers Timothy Hayes and Kevin Roberts, and architect Oscar Shamamian imparted on this Fifth Avenue apartment that overlooks Central Park.

The couple gave the designers three years to complete the renovation and design, wanting something stunning, yet livable for the themselves and their children. In my opinion they succeeded.  ENJOY!
