A situation happened at the beach this weekend that horrified a family and everyone here. A little girl disappeared from her parents at the beach and was not found for two hours. It just so happened that a sexual offender was listed as residing temporarily on the same street. You can imagine what was going through the minds of those involved when this was brought to their attention. Fortunately, the little girl was found five miles up the beach. Some are not this fortunate.
Every state has a registry for sexual offenders, and offenders are required to register. This doesn't mean they all do, and I can tell you most of them have many alias. All you have to do is google (or other search engines) your state name and sex offenders. For instance, mine would be Alabama Sex Offenders, and the other would be Florida Sex Offenders. You can type in your address and see all of the registered perpetrators that are living near you. Remember, this doesn't mean that all of them follow the law, but they have made it tough on them if they don't.
These predators are child molesters, rapists, and other forms of sexual abusers. There is a sheet on each sex offender telling you what they were convicted of.
If you need help getting the link, let me know.
See you later this morning.

Hello Teresa, Well said. I don't have children but as a widow living alone it's good to be aware of these things. By the way, I couldn't remember, have you done a post on Jeffrey Bilhuber (spelling/too lazy to look it up). I've really been admiring his work lately. Shiree'
Yes, Shiree, I have done three posts.

I can't even imagine the complete panic those parents were experiencing. This past spring, a sex offender was spotted parking across the street from my daughter's (all girl) school and watching the after school sports practices. The security noticed and the police were notified and arrested him. The school sent out several emails notifying parents, and it was very disconcerting and to realize that these things happen everywhere and you need to be constantly aware. Thanks for sharing, Teresa.
Every parents worst nightmare...cannot even imagine. Good information to share Teresa, that every parent must know. It is beyond scary and my feelings on what should be done with are very very strong. There should NEVER be an opportunity for a second chance, as there so often is. Thank you Teresa.
Thank you for reminding of the terrible things and people that are around us. Every morning as I wait for my train to new york, I see the picture of a missing young man, college student. Having 2 sons that age, my heart breaks for the boy and his family. My mother's best friend's brother disappeared one day coming from college to never be found. That family lived through the worst tragedy. My son went missing on his first day from school, when i got the call from the police, i still remember the stab of fear, he was found quite a few hours later holding the hand of a homeless man in Georgetown... lucky little boy.
T,
I LOVE YOU!!!!

My husband actually went on the computer a few months ago and found our list and it makes me very uncomfortable that they even live in my small town. If we all watch out for one another and their children we can hopefully keep our childrren safe. I can't even begin to imagine and hope there's ever a need.

We did this with our realtor when we were considering the house we are currently living in, just to be sure. As you said, it isn't 100% but at least screens out some of the risk. I feel so badly for those parents - we have had some scares like that and it is a miserable feeling. So glad it turned out well in the end!
Teresa - Thank you for posting this! I know it is a departure from your regular gorgeous posts. But very important. We all need to be alert and watch out for others. Living in a busy city, everyone wants to keep to themselves. Thank you for this reminder. L
Oh it makes my skin crawl! Having to tell my three girls over and over again what to do if someone tries to abduct them! Its so sad that it's come to this, but education and awareness is key just as you have stated in your post! I also will never forget an Oprah show where a defense expert was on and he said tell your children do whatever they can not to be taken to a 2nd location! Thank for caring enough to post your thoughts on this subject!
