FURLOW GATEWOOD ~ DESIGN IN AMERICUS, GEORGIA

This beautiful home was moved to its home in Americus, Georgia in two pieces. When designer and antique collector Furlow Gatewood saw the home, it was close to being torn down.  A former associate of John Rosselli, Gatewood could not let a house with the bones and character of this old Southern home with its sixteen foot ceilings be demolished. In eighteen months he had renovated this stunning home and lawn and decorated it with antiques, many from Rosselli's basement.  Did I mention that Furlow Gatewood is ninety years old?

With so many unusual antiques and pieces collected on trips, this home is a showplace and a collector's dream.  Diana, the plaster statue in the foyer, was also found in Rosselli's basement.  The beautiful floor in the dining room has hand painted gray squares, and there is blue and white porcelain in every room.  The sisal rugs in this home are beautiful and add just the right amount of texture.  "Antiquing is the best entertainment I have down here," Gatewood laughs. "If you don't count decorating, that is.  And dogs. And peacocks."  ENJOY!

Wonderful spaces--marvelous balance achieved within complex arrangements of furnishings. How might I find out the name of the gray paint he chose--just beautiful.

I'm remodeling a 90s home and am thinking about painting my interior doors gray. The Quintessential Magpie pointed me in your direction. So glad she did. Your blog is lovely and inspiring!

Furlow is right. Antiquing, dogs and decorating is all there is to do down there. Been there - done it! Thank goodness he was able to save this old southern belle! It is glorious.
