WOODEN PLANTER

Well... we have to begin somewhere.

Herb Garden

This was an earlier post, but since it was soon after I started my blog, most of you haven't seen it.

It is almost that time ~ so if you are planting herbs or flowers, you will need to get your boxes, pots, or other containers ready. You will need to start buying your plants within the next 1-2 weeks.  ENJOY!

Finished planter and chalkboard painted terra cotta pots.
The measurements and needed supplies are at the end of this post.

Holes drilled in bottom.

If you wanted to use this as a decorative planter,  you could cover the screw heads.
I decided to paint the box with a mixture of gray stain.  I may use a modest stencil in a color very close to the paint I used on the box.

INSTRUCTIONS:

For plant/flower box, I purchased a 2 x 8 x 16 board. You may want a lighter box. If so, buy 1 x 8 x at least 11 feet. You will only need 11 feet, but it may be difficult to find a shorter board with these dimentions. The gentleman at Lowe’s cut it for me.

You will need to have it cut into 5 pieces.
3 @ 3 feet and 2 @ around 1 (you will need to fit to see) foot.

Package of at least 8 screws. 3 inch for 2 inch board and 1 ½ inch for 1 inch board.  You WILL NEED to get screws, because nails will not secure heavy wood, and it will buckle and fall apart

See photos below. All boards must be flat on ground.
Drill holes smaller than screw and then screw in.

Paint desired color on the outside.

You may want to line or use pots depending on the type wood you buy, but I drill holes in the bottom and put on top of wood planks.

Have fun.

See you soon,
Teresa

Sun is out today in Houston and I'm ready to work on the garden. We're in trim mode here, we had a big freeze last week that did a number on all of our tropical plants! I'm ready for my garden to look like your photo above!

Great project. I can hardly wait to start buying plants. I have a small herb garden outside my kitchen. It's my favorite little spot!

My husband is the plant and landscape maven in our house. I have a total brown thumb! That first photo looks like our backyard when I was growing up - we had an almost identical multi-tiered garden(with railroad ties) where my father grew the most beautiful flowers, fruits and vegetables. It was fabulous!!
