BRIAN MCCARTHY ~ DESIGN IN MANHATTAN

Interior designer Brian McCarthy, formally of Parish-Hadley, used an eclectic mix of many periods to create the stunning decor in his beautiful 1929 home in Manhattan. McCarthy will tell you that decorating his own home was much more of a challenge than the homes of his clients.

McCarthy says that "A room goes through its awkward stage, this its ugly stage, until eventually--hopefully--it gets to its beautiful stage." Anyone who has designed a room will overwhelmingly consider this an understatement! ENJOY!

SPICED WALNUTS

These are really good!

Makes 2 cups

Ingredients
               Nonstick vegetable oil spray
               2 cups walnut halves
3 tablespoons (packed) light brown sugar
               1 tablespoon soy sauce
               1/2 teaspoon Tabasco
               1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
               1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika
               1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper

               ingredient info:
Smoked paprika can be found at most supermarkets.

Preparation
Preheat oven to 340°. Line a rimmed baking sheet with a silicone baking mat or parchment paper. Coat with nonstick spray. Mix walnuts and remaining ingredients in a medium bowl. Spread out in an even layer on prepared sheet. Bake walnuts, rotating pan and stirring nuts every 5 minutes, until golden brown, about 15 minutes. Separate any nuts stuck together (they will be very sticky but will dry as they cool) and let cool completely.

BROOSK SAIB ~ DESIGN IN PUTNEY

Interior designer Broosk Saib creates rooms of color and texture superior to most. Born in Baghdad, Saib was the son of a provincial governor.  The family moved to London when Saib was thirteen and never returned to Baghdad to live.

British colors and style are seen throughout Saib's home, laden with furnishings and art collected over time.  He refers his home as "a tribute to the school of John Fowler." ENJOY!
