Brown ~ Miles Redd and David Hicks

I don't need to convince any of you that I adore Miles Redd. Another favorite interior designer of mine is David Hicks, and I have previously written a three part post on his new book, A Life of Design.   I will leave the link to these posts at the end of this post.

If you follow my blog, you know that I love brown, and that I am using this color from nature's vast abundance, which I find realtively neutral, to decorate my own home. There are so many options and variations utilizing brown, as shown by Redd and Hicks.

I have included in this post two photographs of a brown room designed by Miles Redd for the Boxwood home shown in this month's Town & Country, which was the subject of my last post.  There are also several rooms designed using brown, which were created by the talented designer David Hicks.

ENJOY, my friends.

Miles Redd Dreams In Color

Have I died and gone to Buckhead heaven? When Miles Redd is the interior designer, wonderful things happen. Before this post ends, you will be fully aware that I believe that Miles Redd can run circles around most designers. If you don't want to take my word for it,  enjoy his work shown here on the home of Daneille and Glen Rollins in Atlanta, Georgia.

For those of you that are not aware that Miles Redd is at the top of the list of  respected designers, let me assure you that I am in a blissful state as I prepare this post. For those of you that want to see more of Miles Redd, I have previously introduced him, and will leave the address at the end of this post.

You will notice that Redd uses a lot of brown and a lot of lacquer. Ok. So he has already won my heart, but in lieu of this attraction, he is too talented for words, my precious friends.

Miles Redd

Miles Redd was brought up in the southern city of Atlanta, Georgia, and later moved to New York City to attend New York University.

After graduating, he worked for John Rosselli, who gave him a hands-on education in art and furniture. He later worked for the well known decorator Bunny Williams, learning much about antiques.

In 1998, Redd opened an office in Noho. He has earned a reputation for being one of the most talented decorators of our time. He has my vote. I believe that Miles Redd dreams in color!

He has won many awards and received much recognition for his work. I know that you will agree with me when I say that his work is admirable and glamorous.

Now on to the home...

Miles let the owners take care of the five-acres of grounds...

which, as you can see, are absolutely breathtaking...

so lush...

with a koi pond.  Sorry, but this was a two-pager. I love koi.

Let's go in and see what I am raving about.

The foyer is luscious alone... and the zebra rug...

the bird room...

and the outrageously lovely living (family) room with the brown sofa that you know I love...

is filled with beautiful decor.

Here Redd uses lacquer on the kitchen cabinets. Look at the ceiling...

and see the gilded constellation zodiac art.  Are you convinced yet?

The breakfast room is so airy and fresh, and the view of the gardens is spectacular.

You can not look at this room and not see "Miles Redd" written all
over it.Lacquer is used again on the walls and bookshelves in this library.

Over-the-top luxurious is the only way to describe the bedroom and sitting area.

Agree?  I told you, my friends.

Precious and beautiful.

Closet?  Yep!

and to top it all off, the dressing room which is off of the bathroom, which I am sure is wonderful too.

To see more, and to read the entire article, get yourself a copy of the August issue of Town and Country magazine, which by the way, is becoming one of my favorite reads.

Lost In Sculpture

I have been taking a sculpture class this semester, and I am in love with this form of art. There are so many mediums for sculpture, and I do believe we are covering most. I notice so much more since learning this art, so I thought I would share a few photographs with sculpture pieces in them that I have found here and there over time. ENJOY... my dear friends!

Have a great rest of the weekend. Stay tuned this week for some great posts. Etiquette posts will also return shortly.

See you soon,
Teresa

Sophistication Overboard

Designer Kara Mann is one of the newest faces in Chicago area high-end design. I hope that you ENJOY these photographs which represent her work. I will leave out comments because they are not needed.  I WILL mention that I find the hardwood floors to be the most beautiful I have seen.  I also LOVE the silver leaf on the mantle and other pieces.  I just finished silver leafing a bed.
Enjoy the warmth and elegance of this home designed by Ms. Mann.

I hope that you have enjoyed the tour of this beautiful home, which was featured in Traditional Home.

See you soon,
Teresa
